Information for parents

Special Outings

I regularly arrange special outings for the children in my care.

I always plan the outings to ensure that the children have fun in a safe supervised environment whilst also learning valuable knowledge and life skills.

Special outings will often incur addtional charges over and above my standard childminding fees, as some of the outings involve entrance fees etc.

I always try to keep additional charges to an absolute minimum and give parents plenty of notice before the outing.

The Fire Station

Picture of Fireman

We recently went on an outing to visit our local Fire Station and spent some time learning all about the Lothian and Borders Fire Brigade and some of things they do.

After learning about fire safety and the dangers of playing with fire and matches we were shown around the Fire Station and got to see all of the fire and rescue equipment and meet some firemen.

We were then allowed to sit in the fire engine with the lights and siren on and had a shot of the fire hose.

Everyone had a really great day out, we all had great fun and learned all about fire safety.

Almond Valley Heritage Centre

Erin at Almond ValleyWe packed ourselves off to Almond Valley Heritage Centre in Livingston Village where we all had an amazing time.

We got to see an array of different farm animals the likes of Highland Cattle and ponies.

The staff let us pet the animals and also taught us about the animals after which they were able to witness a milking session of one of the cows.

The baby animals were a huge hit with all the kids and we spent a long time ooh-ing and aah-ing over the cute creatures.

The centre also had a load of other activities for the children, like the museum where they had a great time pulling levers, pressing buttons and exploring the tunnels whilst getting a lot of interesting education about West Lothian's colorful farming and industrial past.

At lunchtime we all sat down by the river for a tasty picnic but we had to be careful so we didn't get it stolen by the very friendly ducks!

When our bellies were full we took it easy for a bit and did a simulated archaeological dig, none of us found any hidden stone age treasures sadly, but we did find plenty of sand, which was also brought home in shoes and pockets.

Before it was time to head home we went over to have a go at the pedal go-carts to the sound of exited squeals. Both I and the children had a great time out and all slept very well that night!
